Testimonials

“Writing Days has provided a stimulating and nurturing environment in which to develop my ideas. Because participants choose which part of their writing to share, I felt in a safe space to experiment at my leisure. Going to the venue - an old train station which has been revamped - brings you on a new journey each time. I love the fact that Lou and Suzanne keep the group small, thus giving us the opportunity to receive extensive feedback at each lesson and to foster a bond between participants. It was an absolute pleasure to hear the journey of each person and to see everybody grow. I also value Lou and Suzanne' concrete advice to help me better understand my writing style and to restructure my novel. I feel very privileged to be part of Lou and Suzanne's literary world. This is a special place.”

“I still find myself thinking about how nourishing it felt to share stories in an old tram on a warm night. Lou and Suzanne made us feel welcome and energised, presiding over the proceedings with humour and grace. I loved getting up to have a read knowing I was free to play and entertain, and I loved hearing the diverse stories of my co-readers. Like the season itself, the summer reading soirée was so lovely and friendly and warm it was a shame when it was over. I’m so proud to be a part of the Writing Days community and can’t wait to see it grow.”

Miriam, Summer Readings Soirée

“I got so much out of this unique workshop. Writing in an old tram was odd in a wonderful way – stepping on board, I felt like I was taken out of my everyday life and worries and found my curious, daring and creative self ready to write. I don’t always like writing prompts – because they can feel too pithy or contrived – but Suzanne crafted a series of prompts that were individually inspiring but also built upon each other, so by the end I had so much new, meaningful material. Her prompts worked for people who had a project they were already working on or for those who didn’t have anything, and they showed the depth of Suzanne’s skill as a storyteller and her ability to support others in finding their own voice.

Another thing I loved about this workshop was the community aspect. Suzanne created an incredibly safe but dynamic culture of sharing in the group by getting us to share our work with a partner before asking if we'd like to share with the group. It meant I got instant feedback on what I was doing and REALLY challenged the critic in my head that was saying, ‘This isn’t anything special’. She turned a group of shy strangers into an engaged and supportive creative community. I couldn’t recommend this workshop enough.”

“The ‘tram writing sessions’ provided a super safe environment to commence the act of thinking of writing inner thoughts not usually shared. The tram concept is both material and immaterial - a handy metaphor for ‘jumping on board’ ‘stepping into’ ‘moving along to an imaginary destination’ and being stimulated to dare to ‘travel’ …metaphorically speaking for the tram is a fixture at Big Arts in Coburg. The ‘tramers’ are two highly skilled and diverse writers in my view - oozing lived experience, empathy and finely tuned art of listening. Lou and Suzanne have different yet complementary styles and a shared goal - to get us to put pen to paper and let it go! I like their philosophy and I can’t recommend being part of their writing world highly enough. I came away with a lovely feeling - to write - in a truthful way!”

“Suzanne created an open and engaging environment, where I felt challenged to think about writing in a range of new ways. She interweaves a diversity of prose excerpts and pairs them with writing prompts that inspired free and expansive writing. Suzanne is an excellent teacher and demystifies the more technical aspects of writing while helping me tap into the things I specifically wanted to write about.”
